A Jamboree Update

July 31, 2007 by ifjsjamboree

So two days into the jamboree everything’s going smoothly. We’ve been packed with participants since day one. At the tent, thanks to the Board of Deputies of British Jews, we have a rather full exhibit on Judaism to show everyone. Beyond that we’ve been doing a number of activities — a wall of peace, writing your name in Hebrew, some bead work and a major project. The major project is on a rotating schedule. The first day we were making kippot. The second and third we’re making shofars. Later in the schedule comes some leatherwork, dreidal making and more kippot.

The scouts have been genuinely excited to explore the Faith Zone. When we are open, we’ve never lacked for Visitors. I’ll update more later today.

Also, Nadav has been able to post a number of pictures some that he took, and some that the Israeli scouts took. They are all available here: http://www.zofim.org.il/sikurim.asp?troop_id=274763776 Again, I apologize for those who can’t read the hebrew.

From the Jamboree

Unfortunately, we’re still not regularly on the internet. In the interim, I wanted to provide a few quick links. Nadav Shamgar, our Israeli representative is also the webmaster of the Tsofim website and has already put up a few pictures and articles.

Regarding the seminar in Israel, he posted the following article in Hebrew: http://www.zofim.org.il/magazin_item.asp?item_id=73015605796

He also posted the following pictures from our visit to one of the Tsofim summer camps:

And today he was able to post the following pictures from our first two days at the jamboree:

When we’ve got some more regular access to the internet, I’ll post more details on what our programming will be and what we’ve been doing since we got here on Tuesday.

Technical Difficulties

Welcome

July 23, 2007 by ifjsjamboree

Less than two years ago the International Forum of Jewish Scouts was founded by Israel, France and the USA. In its first major international appearance, the IFJS is sending six international scouts to join the Local UK scouts to run the Jewish Faith Tent at the Faiths and Beliefs Zone at the Scouting World Jamboree.

We’ve just completed the first International Leadership Training Seminar in Israel, and we’re ready to head to the Jamboree outside London. We spent five days in Israel learning the similarities and differences in our various movements. Over the course of the Jamboree we’ll be posting about our Jewish Scouting Organizations and what’s going on at the Jewish Faith Tent.

Seven countries were represented at the seminar — Canada, France, Israel, Mexico, Morrocco, the United Kingdom and the USA, however only six will be at the Jamboree due to visa technicalities.

Karine Ohayon from Montreal, Canada
Ilan Scialom from Paris, France
Nadav Shamgar from Israel
Alex Joloy from Mexico City, Mexico
Neil Silverman from Manchester, UK
Michael Hofrichter from Houston, TX
Frederick Cherbite from Paris, France and Israel is the driving force behind the IFJS.
Additionally, we will be joined by several other UK scouts during the Jamboree.

We hope that starting with this blog, we can begin our international communication between Jewish Scouts.

Tune in during the World Jamboree to learn of our activities and our different organizations.
